When choosing the best way to travel to the French Alps, travelling by rail should certainly be an option that you consider. Ski trains run from late December to early April and take you directly to Bourg Saint Maurice, just 25mins from Sainte Foy!
You have the choice of a day and night train:
- Day Train
Eurostar run a direct train service to the Alps, which departs London every Saturday morning around 9.30am and arrives in the Alps at 6pm – Just in time for vin chaud and fondue, it’s all very civilised!
- Night Train
Alternatively there’s a Friday overnight train that arrives around 6am on Saturday morning. This is the perfect choice for those itching to get on the slopes on their first day. Plus, you’ll have the mountain to yourselves.
1. Hassle free, Comfortable and Relaxing
The train journey becomes part of your holiday. There’s no hanging around in the airport, no queues, more legroom and you can get up and stretch your legs at any time. There’s a great atmosphere on board, everyone is in holiday mode and looking forward to their ski break.
2. Two extra days on the slopes
Guests using the Friday night train will be happy to know that for change over day, they will have the whole ski area to themselves. Skiers and snowboarders can carve wide runs freely. So, if you’re looking for ways to maximise your time on the slopes without breaking the bank, the ski train is for you! View our special offers page for unmissable accommodation deals.
3. Amazing scenery
Once you board the train in London St Pancras or Ashford, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the journey. The scenery on the train is spectacular; you’ll watch the landscape change from urban skylines to French countryside in no time. After snaking around beautiful lakes and mountains the trains will slow, and allowing you to take in the magical snowy landscape. You’re here!
4. Family Friendly Travel
There’s something so exciting about being whisked to the mountains at 186mph!
We would highly recommend booking seats with a table, so that you can sit and play games together. There’s isn’t any WiFi on-board, so make sure you pack plenty to keep the kids (and big kids) entertained. Downloads to your tablet, books, movies, drawing, pack of cards etc. – If all else fails, fun games like ‘I Spy’ and ‘The Memory Game’ never fail!
In some cases, trains have family spaces and nursery facilities. On Eurostar it is possible for families to book seats in a dedicated carriage close to the front of the train with baby-changing facilities.
Child fares – under 4’s can travel free though they aren’t allocated a seat. For children up to the age of 11, there’s a discounted child fare. Find out more about our Family Ski Holidays in Sainte Foy.
5. Generous Luggage Allowance
Each passenger can take two suitcases (with no weight restrictions) plus a pair of skis/snowboard & hand luggage. Another benefit is that you know that your luggage will arrive with you. If you prefer to hire ski & board equipment in-resort, we offer amazing discounts with our partners SkiSet.
6. Shorter transfers that won’t break the bank!
Time is always valuable when on holiday and you can maximise your precious days on the slopes by choosing the ski train. Bourg St Maurice Station is just 20 minutes from Sainte Foy, and just £15pp each way with a Premiere Neige transfer!
So, if you’re looking for a stress-free winter holiday, without the hassle of airport transfers and queues, then look no further!
